I simply couldn't put this book down. I thought it was ingeniously crafted, with two stories developing side by side in this novel. It is easy to villainize those who perpetrate unspeakable crimes against others. Yet, Shuman has painstakingly created a whole other life for his antagonist that humanizes him and makes you think long and hard about how "monsters" become who they are and who is really to blame for kids gone bad. Frightening, harrowing--simply a good read.
